Which Other Health Conditions Are Most Common for People Living with CLL?

For people with CLL the most common comorbidities include heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney (renal) issues.

How Do Other Common Health Conditions Affect Treatment Choices?

It is important to discuss with your doctor any health conditions you may have, since your health history may affect which treatment may be right for you.

Always share your full health history with your doctor so that you can make a decision together about which treatment options may be the right choice for you.

Your doctor may recommend screening you for heart health prior to starting treatment, since treatments have different risks of developing atrial fibrillation (a heart condition that can cause the heart to beat irregularly). If you have a known heart condition, be sure to tell your doctor before beginning treatment.

Tell your doctor if you have a history of high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), since some treatments may impact high blood pressure differently and require close monitoring of your heart health.

Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, which is often considered a heart health risk, before starting any CLL treatment. Your doctor may recommend screening for additional heart conditions prior to starting any CLL treatment.

Be sure to tell your doctor if you have kidney (renal) impairment (damage), which may put you at increased risk of a condition called “tumor lysis syndrome”. Your doctor may want to do extra monitoring if you have known kidney issues.
